Abstract: (1138 Views)
Background and Objectives: Older women with multiple sclerosis (MS) suffer from numerous psychological disorders. The present study aims to determine the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) in improving emotion regulation and sleep quality of older women with MS.
Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test/post-test/follow-up design. Participants were 30 older women with MS in Tabriz, Iran, in 2023, who were selected using a purposive sampling method and randomly assigned to two groups of 15 (intervention and control). The intervention group received ACT at eight 90-min sessions, while the control group did not receive any treatment. Both groups answered Gratz and Romer’s Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality index before, immediately after, and three months after the intervention. The data were analyzed using the repeated measures analysis of variance.
Results: The ACT group showed better emotion regulation and sleep quality scores than the control group (P<0.001). After three months, the effects of ACT on emotion regulation and sleep quality were maintained.
Conclusion: The ACT can improve emotion regulation and sleep quality of older women with MS.
