Background and Objectives: Missed nursing care is a common threat to patient safety and quality of care. This study aimed to investigate missed nursing care and its related factors among nurses in the emergency departments (EDs) of hospitals in Qom, Iran.
Methods: This is a descriptive-analytical study with a cross-sectional design that was conducted on 200 nurses working in the EDs of hospitals in Qom City in 2024, who were selected using a census sampling method. Data were collected using a demographic/work-related form and the MISSCARE survey. Statistical analysis was performed in SPSS software, version 26.
Results: The majority of participants were female (53.5%) and married (61.5%), with a mean age of 31.65±5.95 years, and a bachelor’s degree (96%). The variables of gender (P=0.002, β=0.204), work experience (P=0.005, β=-0.185), number of patients checked in the last shift (P=0.010, β=0.164), and job satisfaction (P<0.001, β=-0.303) were identified as predictors of missed nursing care. They together explained 24.1% of the variance in the MISSCARE survey score.
Conclusion: Missed nursing care by the ED nurses of hospitals in Qom City occurs at a moderate level. Nursing managers of these hospitals need to pay more attention to the factors affecting the missed nursing care of ED nurses (Male gender, lower work experience, higher number of patients under care, and reduced job satisfaction) to improve the quality of healthcare services.
