Background and Objectives Acute coronavirus syndrome (SARS-CoV) plays an important role in stimulating inflammatory pathways in causing various covid19 manifestations. Considering the anti-inflammatory role of statins and modulating the inflammatory process dependent on cytokines, the hypothesis of a possible effect of this group of drugs in inhibiting inflammatory cascade of cytokines in the field of coronavirus have been proposed in some studies, so the aim of this trial was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of atorvastatin in addition to standard protocol therapy compared to standard protocol treatment separately for hospitalized adults with COVID-19. Method:We conducted a randomized controlled clinical trial on adults hospitalized with COVID-19. Patients were divided randomly into a treatment group receiving atorvastatin+ standard protocol and a control group receiving standard protocol alone. The findings were analyzed by SPSS 22 software ) Chi square, paired t.test and ANOVA( and P.value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results:74 patients with a 1: 1 ratio in the atorvastatin and control groups were studied and included in the study. Clinical and demographic characteristics were similar between the two groups. CRP level in atorvastatin group decreased significantly (P <0.05) so that on the Thirtieth day there was a significant difference in CRP level between the two groups (P = 0.01). There was no significant difference in O2sat on discharge day. Although the duration of hospitalization in the atorvastatin group was significantly reduced compared to the control group (P <0.05), but there was no significant difference in receiving aggressive mechanical ventilation or hospitalization in the ICU. Conclusion:Our results showed that the use of atorvastatin with standard protocol of covid19 treatment in hospitalized patients can significantly reduce the number of hospitalization days in these patients. Also, the mean CRP in the atorvastatin group decreased significantly after 30 days
