Background and Objectives: Cancer is one of the most important diseases of the present century and the second cause of death. This study aimed to determine the correlation between general health with life expectancy and quality of life in Patients with leukemia.

Methods: This study was conducted as a descriptive-correlational study on 100 leukemia patients selected by convenience sampling in Zahedan city, 2015. Demographic characteristics, general health, life expectancy, and quality of life questionnaires, were filled in by the patients. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, and step-by-step regression Analysis.

Results: Among the dimensions of general health, physical symptoms, and disruption in social functioning, had a significant negative relationship with life expectancy of these patients (p<0.01). Also, dimensions of physical symptoms, disruption in social functioning, and depression had a significant negative relationship with quality of life of these patients (p<0.01). The dimensions of physical symptoms (17.9%) and disruption in social functioning (5.2%) predicted the variance of life expectancy in patients with leukemia (p<0.01). Meanwhile, the dimensions of physical symptoms made the most contribution to the prediction of life expectancy (p<0.001). Also, the dimensions of physical symptoms (20.3%) and disruption in social functioning (3.3%) predicted the variance of quality of life in the patients with leukemia (p<0.01). The dimension of physical symptoms had the most contribution to the prediction of quality of life (p<0.001).

Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that general health promotion can increase life expectancy and quality of life in the cancer patients.
