Abstract:   (607 Views)
Background and Objectives: Cold therapy is a method for treating injuries specific to athletics. Although this modality has some advantages, it can also impair balance. The aim of this study is to compare the effects of cold spray and ice pack on static and dynamic balance in healthy subjects.
Methods: It this interventional study, the subjects are randomly assigned into two groups. While the first group received 20 minutes ice pack, the second group received 5 seconds cold spray on ankle joint. Before, immediately after, 30 and 60 minutes after intervention, single leg test and Star Excursion Balance tests in three directions and skin temperature were measured.
Results: Immediately after cold exposure, mean skin temperature was significantly higher in individuals who received cold spray. The average time duration that individuals standing on one foot in Single Leg Test was significantly higher in cold spray group, immediately after cold exposures. SEBT test in three directions showed that in all three directions, mean scores were higher in cold spray group significantly.
Conclusion: Using ice pack reduces ankle temperature, and impaired static and dynamic balance more than cold spray.
