Abstract:   (423 Views)
Background and Objectives: Nursing care can be missed due to different factors that can reduce nursing quality and patient satisfaction. Missed nursing care (MNC) of older adults in emergency departments is associated with risks. This study aims to determine MNC status in older adults hospitalized in the emergency departments of hospitals in Qom, Iran.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 300 nurses in the emergency departments of hospitals affiliated to Qom Universities of Medical Sciences in 2022, who were selected using a convenience sampling method. The instrument was Kalisch’s MNC questionnaire. Data were analyzed in SPSS  software, version 16 using descriptive statistics.
Results: The mean MNC score was 30.35±11.98. The highest percentage of missed care was for the item “feeding patient when the food is still warm” (84.3%) and the item with the least missed care was “skin care” (3.7%).
Conclusion: The MNC for older adults in the emergency departments of hospitals in Qom is below average. To provide optimal care and reduce MNC for older adults in the emergency departments of hospitals, it is necessary to upgrade interdisciplinary training programs for nursing staff, recognize the characteristics of older adults, and know how to provide them with specialized care. Feeding patients and measurement of vital signs as ordered should be included in the list of MNC for older adults in the hospitals of Qom.
