Abstract:   (51 Views)
Background and Objective: Vitiligo aggravates psychological problems such as concern of body image and ultimately reduces the psychological well-being in patients. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) with compassion-focused therapy (CFT) on concern of body image and psychological well-being in women with vitiligo.
Methods:  This experimental study was performed based on a pre-test, post-test, and follow-up design. The study population consisted of all women with vitiligo in Tabriz, Iran, in the 2023. The research sample was 30 people who were selected by purposive sampling method and were randomly divided into experimental groups of 15 people. Both experimental groups received their treatment in eight 1.5-h sessions. The findings were analyzed through repeated measures ANOVA and Bonferroni post-hoc test.
Results: Both treatments (ACT and CFT) decreased concern of body image of women with vitiligo in the post-test (P<0.001) and increased their psychological well-being (P<0.001). In the follow-up phase, the effect of these two treatments on the concern of body image and psychological well-being was lasting (P<0.001). The effect of these two treatments on concern of body image and psychological well-being was the same in post-test and follow-up stages (P>0.05).
Conclusion: Due to the effectiveness of these two treatments (ACT and CFT) on concern of body image and psychological well-being in women with vitiligo, they can be used to reduce concern of body image and increase psychological well-being in these people.
