Background and Objectives:
As adolescents develop a growing curiosity about sexuality, the role of parents in sexual education becomes increasingly vital. This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of a measurement tool designed for mothers to educate their school-aged daughters about sexual health, utilizing the integrated behavioral model.
Methods:
This psychometric study was conducted in two phases: the creation of a questionnaire through a deductive approach and the assessment of its validity and reliability. A panel of experts contributed to the development of the tool, alongside participation from 20 mothers of first-year secondary school girls in Kashan during 2023. Validity was examined through qualitative face validity and both quantitative and qualitative content validity. Reliability was assessed using Pearson's correlation coefficient and Cronbach's alpha for each construct as well as for the entire tool.
Results:
Following expert and participant feedback, 32 questions were eliminated, and 15 were consolidated, leading to a final set of 86 validated questions. The overall content validity ratio and content validity index for the tool were determined to be 0.90 and 0.96, respectively. Specific content validity ratios for various constructs ranged from 0.82 to 0.95, with content validity index from 0.94 to 0.98. The tool achieved a overall Cronbach's alpha of 0.97 and a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.94.
Conclusion:
The developed tool, based on the integrated behavioral model, exhibits excellent validity and reliability for assessing sexual education provided by mothers to their daughters in Iran.
