Background and Objectives: As adolescents’ sexual curiosity increases, parents’ responsibility for providing sexual education to them becomes more burdensome. This study aimed to develop a questionnaire based on the integrated behavioral model (IBM) for Iranian mothers to assess the sexual health knowledge of their daughters.
Methods: This psychometric study was conducted in two steps: Design and psychometric assessment. Participants were 20 mothers of first-year high school girls in Kashan, Iran, in 2023. The qualitative face validity and both quantitative and qualitative content validity were assessed. Test re-test reliability was evaluated using Pearson’s correlation test, and Cronbach’s α was used for assessing internal consistency.
Results: Following expert and participant feedback, the final draft was prepared with 86 items and eight subscales (knowledge, attitude, perceived norms, self-efficacy, perceived behavioral control, behavioral intention, skills, and behaviors). The content validity ratio and content validity index for the overall scale were 0.90 and 0.96, respectively. The content validity ratios for the subscales ranged from 0.82 to 0.95, and the content validity index ranged from 0.94 to 0.98. The Cronbach’s α for the overall scale was 0.97, and the intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.94.
Conclusion: The IBM-based questionnaire has excellent validity and reliability for Iranian mothers to assess the sexual health knowledge of their daughters.
