Background and Objectives: Traffic accidents are one of the social problems that endanger human health. The present study aims to find the human factors effective in causing traffic accidents in Guilan province, Iran.
Methods: This is an analytical cross-sectional study that was conducted in two stages. In the first stage, a questionnaire was developed to collect information by reading related papers and the accident reports of the police. In the second stage, 670 drivers who had an accident and referred to nine hospitals in Guilan province during three months in 2020 were interviewed in person or by phone. Factor analysis (exploratory and confirmatory) were used to analyze the data in SPSS software, version 21, and PLS software.
Results: Most of participants were at the age of 21-40 years (58.4%), 96.9% were male, and 72.2% were self-employed. The most effective human factor in road accidents was fatigue/sleepiness with a path coefficient of 0.774, while the least effective factors were carelessness and road defects with a path coefficient of -0.03.
Conclusion: Human factors are an important factor in causing traffic accidents in Guilan province, where the most important factor is fatigue/sleepiness.
