The corona virus epidemic has put a lot of pressure on the healthcare systems. In this high-risk situation, it is necessary to identify people prone to mental disorders with mental health risks at different levels of society. In the meantime, it is necessary to pay attention to nurses due to the importance of their presence in the inpatient wards of corona patients. This study was designed to examine the mental health status of nurses working in COVID-19 wards compared to those working in non-COVID wards at Valiasr hospital in Birjand in 2022.
Research method: In this descriptive-comparative study, nurses working in the wards of Covid-19 (n=107) and other wards of Valiasr Birjand Hospital (n=124) participated in 1401. These individuals were selected using simple random sampling from the list of nurses working in corona wards and in non-corona wards. The questionnaires used in this study included the demographic and occupational information form, the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-13) and the Corona Disease Anxiety Scale.
Findings: According to the results of the present study, the mean score of mental anxiety and total anxiety in nurses working in corona wards was significantly higher than that of nurses working in non-corona wards (P < 0.05), but the difference in the mean score of physical anxiety and depression in the two the group of nurses studied was not statistically significant.
Conclusion: Considering the high level of general anxiety and mental anxiety in nurses working in the corona ward, it is necessary to design psychological interventions for nurses working in these wards in epidemics like covid-19.
