Background and Objectives: Groups providing knowledge-based services to patients. Knowledge management is the key to the success of organizations and motivation is one of the effective factors in maintaining the employees. This study aimed to investigate the direct and indirect effects of nurses’ motivation on knowledge management in hospitals affiliated to Qom University of Medical Sciences (QUMS), Qom, Iran.
Methods: This analytical cross-sectional study was conducted on 349 nurses from hospitals affiliated to QUMS. The instrument was a researcher-made questionnaire with acceptable validity and reliability designed to measure motivation and knowledge management. Data were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling in SPSS software, version  20 and LISREL software, version 8.8.
Results: The mean scores of motivation and knowledge management were 3.071±1.344 and 3.30±0.783, respectively. The motivation of nurses had a positive and significant effect on the knowledge management (T=3.01, β=0.19, P=0.045).
Conclusion: Nurses’ motivation has a positive and significant effect on the knowledge management in hospitals. The hospital managers, in addition to providing the necessary infrastructure to implement the knowledge management process, should adopt methods to create motivation in nurses, in order to improve the quality of nursing services.
