Background and Objectives: Breast cancer is one of the common cancers in women. This study aims to determine the relationship between resilience and marital adjustment in married women with breast cancer, Qom, Iran.
Methods: This is a descriptive-correlational study that was conducted in 2022 on 167 married women with breast cancer in Qom, Iran, who were selected using a sequential sampling method. The research tools were Spinner’s dyadic adjustment scale (DAS) and the Connor-Davidson resilience scale. Data analysis was performed in SPSS software, version 23 using descriptive and analytical tests (Pearson correlation test and linear regression). The significance level was set at of 0.05.
Results: The mean age of women was 51.2±8.8 years. There was a positive and significant correlation between resilience and marital adjustment (r=0.662, P<0.01) and between resilience and income level (r=0.24, P=0.002). Resilience had a positive and significant correlation with affection expression, cohesion, and consensus domains of marital adjustment (P<0.01). The results of regression analysis showed that resilience (β=0.61, 95% CI, 0.36%, 0.53%, P<0.01) and number of children (β=0.28, 95% CI, 1.34%, 3.27%, P<0.01) were the significant predictors of marital adjustment.
Conclusion: Resilience is the predictor of marital adjustment in Iranian married women with breast cancer. Attention should be paid to the resilience of these women to improve their marital adjustment.
