Background and Objective: Drug addiction is a worldwide epidemic that affects many people’s lives. The quality of life and health literacy as the underlying and causative factors in driving or preventing the tendency towards drug use can help families, officials, and therapists adopt better preventive, treatment, and control measures. The present study aimed to predict addiction tendency based on the quality of life and health literacy of university students.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive-correlational study was conducted on male students at Islamic Azad University, Qom Branch, in the academic year 2022-2023. Using Cochran’s formula, the sample size was estimated to be 358 students who were selected through simple random sampling. The data were collected using the Weed Addiction Tendency Scale, the World Health Organization Quality-of-Life Scale (WHOQOL), and the Health Literacy Scale. Data analysis was performed with SPSS-26 software using synchronous multiple regression analysis and Pearson correlation test.
Results: The data in this study revealed that the quality of life subscales (physical health, psychological health, social relationships, and social environment) and the health literacy subscales (access, reading skills, understanding, and decision-making) can significantly predict addiction tendency (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Quality of life (physical health, psychological health, social relationships and social environment) and health literacy (access, reading skills, understanding and decision-making) can predict students' addiction tendencies. It is suggested that educational officials pay attention to the role of quality of life and health literacy in order to reduce the tendency of students to become addicted.
